![]() ![]() With the rock charts we were mostly #1 with Dystopia, it was really successful! We also won the Clio award, we got the Revolver Magazine “Best Guitarist” award which was amazing for Dave and I to win! We won best guitarist of the year award which, MAN!, as a Brazilian guy living in the United States “The Land of The Guitar” you know, to get an award like this is just unbelievable! We were getting a lot of awards with the album, not only the Billboards but on the charts all over the world. ![]() On top of that I did some guitar clinics here and there so it was quite an intense year for me all around. For me it was great to tour around the world, I mean we did about 100 concerts, I was counting the other day and it was around there with the USA, Europe and South America. The album landed in January 2016 and it was amazing because we hit #3 on the Billboard charts just after Justin Beiber and Adele! It was amazing, you know, a metal band to hit so high on the Billboards with Adele and Justin Bieber!? We then started the Dystopia tour and it was pretty successful. ![]() I was fresh off tour with ANGRA, then set myself to learn 16 MEGADETH songs in basically one night, learned the rhythms correctly, and solos correctly.Īfter that we went off for a 2 month tour before the album hit. I had to learn all the catalogue songs from previous albums, and these were basically all new songs for me because I had just gotten out of the studio recording 13 new tracks for Dystopia. At that time we only had like 2 days of rehearsal together. You know it would be much easier and less stressful if the first show was in a smaller venue situation or in a different country but it was amazing! It was quite challenging for me and Chris Adler (Lamb of God Drummer, ) our drummer at that time. ![]() It was televised by Canadian TV and all that and we were there to play our first show together. The previous night they had Foo Fighters and The Rolling Stones, so you can imagine the size of the festival! There were probably between 70,000 and 80,000 people there. It was a great experience! Quite challenging. ( ) In July I did my very first show with MEGADETH up in Quebec Canada! Then I left to Japan with ANGRA to do a few shows out there and immediately went down to South America to tour with ANGRA in June. We started to work on the DYSTOPIA album in April and May, recording all my rhythm & solo tracks in that time. Nearly a year later I had a meeting with Dave Mustaine in March of 2015, and right after that I hit the studio with MEGADETH in Nashville. KIKO – It’s been 2 years with Megadeth since our first contact in February of 2015. UNLEAVENED SHRED – Kiko! How are you brother!? Life has taken you on an upward path of success and adventure over the last few years! Can you give us a snapshot of how it’s been to tour and recording with Megadeth, winning a Grammy, being a new daddy? (See more Unleavened Shred Artist Interviews Here! ) We’ll let the man himself take it from here as UNLEAVENED SHRED Interviews the one and only Kiko Loureiro! Then just when you thought things couldn’t get any better, he auditions for Megadeth and lands the gig! He bludgeoned us with brutal riffage on their newest album and was honored with a Grammy during his time with the band so far. You couldn’t have a virtuoso conversation without his name coming up along with the mainstays of the genre like Satriani, Petrucci, Vai, Gilbert etc… His Brazilian infused, classically influenced, full assault style of playing seemed to have placed him in the highest ranks of metal guitarists worldwide. Now if this is the first you’re hearing of Kiko’s greatness and contributions to metal guitardom, and are wondering why he deserves to go down in guitar hall of fame, just have a listen to the first track off his first album, and within the first 10 seconds you will have a full understanding of what all the buzz is about! I suggest listening as you read this interview so you can be thoroughly rocked while hearing his thoughts on the instruments that took him to the top!Īfter 4 solo albums, his name was everywhere. Luckily for all of us fans of shred guitar he followed his dream and released “No Gravity” in 2004 (which I’m rockin’ as I write this blog entry). Kiko had a playing style all his own that needed to be shared with the world as a solo artist. When you’re asked to play MONSTERS OF ROCK festival in Brazil, sharing the stage with big names like KISS, BLACK SABBATH and SLAYER., you know you’ve arrived! 9 Albums later their legacy lives on. This launched Kiko on one tour after another gaining notoriety and respect from the biggest names in the business. ![]()
